Don’t Forget to Dream

Besides Danny MacAskill’s amazing talents and the months of planning, set building, practice and filming that went into this production, I was reminded how much we seemingly lose our ability to dream once we get older. Click on the image below to view the very cool video on their site.

dont-forget-to-dreamThe young boy in this short film was immersed in his imaginary world where anything was possible. To him, like all of us at that age, the actions and characters were just as real as those portrayed by the actors. Inherently as children, we all have the ability to create whatever worlds we want. As adults we still possess that same capability, but over the years we have forgotten what it was like to be able to create our own realities based on our limitless imaginations.

Our friends, family, educators, employers, coworkers, the media and virtually everyone else we come in contact with throughout our normal days tell us what they believe we can or cannot do. They may mean well and often advise us in an effort to protect us or avoid disappointment. The reality is they are often projecting their own thoughts, lack of abilities or limitations based on their own life experiences. We have become accustomed to believing those warnings, even though it might be on a subconscious level. The end result is that we end up limiting our own growth and development based on someone else’s beliefs or limitations.

The only way to realize our full potential is to remember that each of us, at any age have the ability to create whatever reality we choose as long as we remember that we are in control of our destiny. We have to regain that childlike innocence and remember to dream big, stay focused and let our passion for those goals we wish to achieve be the fuel to drive the consistent action to make them happen.
